Counseling to me is a collaborative, dynamic, and engaging process focused on maximizing strengths and creating opportunity for growth, change, and success. Most of my clients arrive with a desire to understand how their mental health, addiction, family of origin, trauma, or relationship choices are impacting their quality of life. The insight gained can then been utilized as a source of personal improvement and increased fulfillment. The majority of my clients are left-of-center and many are from creative, activist, and radical communities. While I generally operate from a relational perspective, I often incorporate humanistic, psychodynamic, existential, and mindfulness approaches, meeting each client where they are and blending support and challenge.
I am a progressive and proactive counselor, i.e. I’m not going to nod my head throughout the session and instead will really try to “get in there”. My goal is to empower clients with a safe space to talk openly and tools to take into the world in order create the life and the relationships you want with the support and skills needed to do so. I tend to steer away from the quick-fix and focus more on life-changing psychotherapy.
Relationships, identity, and sexuality are a particular area of interest of mine and I am a kink friendly provider.
